So Far......

Hello there, Jerry here posting for Helen.  We have been a little slow getting our blog started because we have just been having so doggone much fun!  So far, and I do mean  far, (we have traveled about 5500 miles in the last month), we have ridden in the Florida Panhandle, Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Big Bend Country in Texas, all over New Mexico, down the streets of Tombstone, and now we're riding among the big saguaro cactus at Wickenburg, Arizona.  Helen has been busy everywhere photographing the people and places we have seen.  I'll link each post to one of her albums until we catch up.

Along the way we have met some of the finest folks in the country, but a few of them really stand out.  People like Linda Strong, the artist and sculptor in Lamy, NM who took us into her studio where she had art from the late '50s when she was just starting out to things she was working on at the time.  Her 20 foot tall sculpture of the Peruvian Paso mare in her front yard that she sculpted by welding metal fence posts, horseshoes, pieces of pipe and barbed wire was breathtaking, and was so obviously a Peruvian even to the most untrained eye.  The "Fabulous" Mr. Daniel Kelly and his lovely wife Gabriele in Mendenales, NM welcomed us to their beautiful place on the mesa.  John Vega and his family in Carizozo, NM, Mr. Henry, his dad who in his late 70s, looks like he is 50, who took us in when night came and it was obvious that we weren't going to make it up the mountain to Mayhill where we were going to visit with Ronnie and Kathy Wilbanks, some more of the fine folks we have met on this trip.

Every place we have been has been unique in its scenery, architecture and culture.  The beauty and the grandeur of this great country is awe inspiring, from the majesty of the mountains to the starkness of the desert covered in creosote bushes.

More to detail to come in future posts.  For now ... so far..
